About Me

ABOUT KAREN

I have always had a passion for helping people, especially individuals that are struggling with seasons of change. Having experienced therapy both from the perspective of a client and a therapist, I believe wholeheartedly in the positive outcomes from dedicated counseling.

My interests include helping adults overcome their obstacles so that they can experience a life of confidence, peace, and contentment. My special focus involves helping those dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma and grief, and providing support for recovering addicts and their loved ones. I am also privileged to provide premarital counseling, distressed marriage counseling, and divorce/divorce adjustment counseling. My life experiences have also given me a heart for those who have been down the challenging roads of marriage dissolution, infertility, adoption, parenting children with ADHD, serving as primary caregiver to chronically ill or dying loved ones, and finding purposeful living. Along with individual therapy sessions, I have been a facilitator for process and psychoeducational groups. It is my experience that safe groups can not only provide connection but also move clients exponentially closer to improved health.

It takes courage to reach out for help, but that is the first step to finding inner peace and healing. My approach is to help and support clients in identifying their treatment goals and strengths. It would be my honor to help you as you dare to change yourself and life's circumstances for a healthier and more balanced manner of living. My goal in therapy is to provide a safe place for clients to unload burdens and practice solutions-based options.

I earned my Master's Degree in Counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University. Before starting private practice I did my internship at AGAPE Counseling Services in Nashville. I currently hold a license #3027 as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

I have received additional therapy training in:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Level I & II
  • Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Externship
  • Prepare/Enrich Couples' Counseling
  • Counseling educational seminars and therapy trainings (most recently, Solution Focused Therapy for individuals and couples)

I have also led groups; my group work includes classes on boundaries, moving out of shame into connection, and caregiving.

When I am not doing the work I love as a therapist, I enjoy my new role as an empty nester mom. I like to spend my newfound time with friends and family. My interests include exercise, yoga, traveling, gardening and landscaping, cooking and baking, and reading (I find motivation in being a continual learner). I also get a kick out of washing and waxing my own car!
